In every mammalian species, immediately upon reaching puberty, animals function as adults, often having offspring. We call our offspring “children” well past puberty. The trend started a hundred years ago and now extends childhood well into the 20s. The age at which Americans reach adulthood is increasing ”30 is the new 20”and most Americans now believe a person isn’t an adult until age 26.

I couldn’t believe what I was reading. A non-christian psychologist who agrees with me about adolescence! For years I’ve been wondering and complaining about society’s stance on adolescence. Psychologists and Professors claiming how at age 25 people aren’t yet ready for marriage or ready to have a real job – that they need to go out into the world and find themselves before they can become adults. I’ve always thought this was complete bullocks. As someone who’s been Married since age 21, been a father since age 22, had a professional job since age 16, I guess I’ve always just seen things differently than most. Read the rest of this entry »
